Aquaculture show set for October

HCM CITY – The country’s premier international aquaculture industry show, Aquaculture Việt Nam 2017, will take place in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta Province of Cần Thơ in late October with an expected 4,000 visitors.

Seventy per cent of around 120 companies at the exhibition will be from Việt Nam, with the rest from other countries.

Aquaculture companies, especially those from the Mekong Delta, will introduce their brands and products to partners and consumers, while farmers will have a chance to update their knowledge and seek markets and technologies.

Rose Chitanuwat, group director of UBM Asia, an organiser of the exhibition, said the exhibition would present an overview of the aquaculture industry with topics related to feeding, processing, marketing, services and finished products.

Chitanuwat also said the exhibition would present the latest production innovations, new cost-effective solutions for quality control, and ideas and insights to grow companies’ business through a comprehensive programme, including business-to-business exhibitions and conferences.

At the event, an international aquaculture conference, with the theme “Aquaculture – Profitable and Sustainable Business”, will be held. Domestic and international experts will discuss industry topics, including the use of technologies in breeding and processing products.

The exhibition will be held from October 25-27 at the Cần Thơ International Exhibition and Fair Centre.

It is organised by UBM Asia with the co-operation of the Directorate of Fisheries, Việt Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Cần Thơ, Việt Nam Pangasius Association, International Collaborating Centre for Aquaculture and Fisheries Sustainability, and Việt Nam Fisheries Society.

In the first seven months of this year, the country produced over 4 million tonnes of aquaculture products, an increase of 4.4 per cent year-on-year.

Of the total, tra fish accounted for over 632,000 tonnes, up by 5 per cent over the same period last year. Production of shrimp during this period was over 250,000 tonnes, up by 3.8 per cent.

The Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta region plays an important role in national aquaculture production, contributing 52 per cent of the fishing yield.

The region’s aquaculture exports account for 65 per cent of national aquaculture exports. With this potential, the Delta is an attractive destination for foreign companies entering the Vietnamese market.
