Cao Phong district goes vibrant with orange festival

The Cao Phong orange festival, themed "The fragrance of Muong land”, is taking place in Cao Phong district at the end of November. To date, Cao Phong is the only area in the northwestern region receiving geographical indication for orange. Orange farms in Cao Phong district are now ready to welcome visitors.

Farmers at Cao Phong One Member Limited Company have been rejoiced at their orange crops this year. Despite lower yield than the previous crops, the fruits have better quality with sweeter taste.

According to Trinh Trong Nghia, a member of the firm’s Bac Phong group, thanks to less rain, oranges taste sweeter this year. Now, the prices of orange sold right at gardens range from 16,000-20,000 VND per kilogramme.

With more than 883 hectares of orange trees cultivated by 175 households, Cao Phong One Member Limited Company is leading local firms and cooperatives in terms of orange area. The company planted a wide range of orange varieties such as Duong Canh, Mat CT36 and V2, among others.

The management board of the geographical indication has enhanced the monitoring and inspection of cultivation process in farming households, as well as promoted popularisation of the requirements of geographical indication in local companies and household businesses.

In November, along with yellow-flesh orange, Canh orange, Ha Giang tangerine and Cao Phong tangerine also enter their peak harvesting season. In a bid to meet increasing fastidious requirements of customers, Cao Phong farmers applied the VietGAP standard for clean agriculture, and attained food safety certificates for more than 1,000 hectares of oranges and tangerine.

Coming to Cao Phong orange festival these days, visitors will have opportunities to enjoy the distinctive flavour of oranges and tangerines of the Muong Thang land./.
