Under the local Program No.18 on agriculture and rural development, Dau Tieng district’s People’s Committee has implemented a plan on agriculture and rural development for the 2017-2020 period. The district has set up and realized its project on restructuring of the local agricultural sector to 2020 and orientations to 2025 towards sustainable development.

Opening up new ways

Vo Trung Nghia, Head of Dau Tieng district’s People’s Committee said that implementing the project has helped changing people’s thought about demand with determination to innovate the local agricultural production.

The whole district has so far had 650 hectares of fruit trees. Noticeably, people in Thanh Tuyen and Thanh communes have won high prizes at the annually Southeastern delicious fruit competition. The district has implemented a model on intensive cultivation for citrus fruit trees under VietGAP standards and linkage from production to consumption in 2 communes of Minh Hoa and Minh Thanh.

Along with this, the district has coordinated with the district’s Center for Agricultural Development and Research to realize a project on applying sci-tech advancements into building the intensive cultivation model for citrus fruit trees under VietGAP standards and linkage from production to consumption in Minh Hoa and Minh Thanh communes. The district has also developed a modern system on putting down fertilizer and watering fruit trees in 3 communes of Dinh Thanh, Dinh Hoa, Thanh An with 21 hectares. Initially, the model has brought the local farmers stable economic efficiency, contributing to protecting water resources.

The whole district is now home to 12 hectares of ornamental creatures. Noticeably, Mai Quoc Thai orchid farm in Minh Hoa commune’s Hoa  Loc hamlet is the district’s most effective orchid farm with 6.5 hectares. The value of the district’s ornamental creature production has reached between VND900million and VND1.1million per hectare per year with profit at VND600million per hectare per year.

In terms of animal husbandry, since 2017, the district has approved a policy on building 11 farms on pig breeding, 16 on poultry breeding in communes of Long Hoa, Minh Thanh, An Lap, Dinh An and Long Tan. Thus, the district has to date developed 219 farms on animal husbandry…

Effectiveness improved

Thanks to the integral efforts by the local authorities at all levels and people, the district’s annual economy has always gained stable and high growth. Since 2016, the local economy has gained the annually growth of 13%-14%. In 2018, the local economic structure was developed with 28.30% in agriculture, 32% in trade-services and 39.7% in industry and construction. The average income per person of the local people was more than VND55million. The rate of the local poor households under the province’s poverty line reduced to 1.03%.

Possibly seeing, the district’s project on restructuring of agriculture has contributed strongly changing the local agricultural and rural image. Particularly, the district has fostered agricultural production towards hi-tech application; formed up a goods zone in association with the market…The district is also taking synchronous and effective solutions, aiming to boost the restructuring of agriculture towards sustainable development. But, the district’s restructuring of agriculture has required higher political determination from the local authorities at all levels and people to overcome challenges for better results…
