Exports of fruits and vegetables to Thailand surge 230%

Vietnam’s export turnover to Thailand tends to decrease, however the turnover of fruits and vegetables has achieved animpressive increase.

According to the latest information from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in June, the export turnover of fruits and vegetables to Thailand reached more than US$11.4 million, thereby bringing the total turnover of the first six months to US$79.4 million.

This result has shown the high growth of 230% compared to the same period in 2019 (US$23.7 million in 2019).

This is quite special when Thailand is the leading Southeast Asian country in exporting fruits and vegetables.

On the other hand, in the first six months, Vietnam’s export turnover to Thailand market dropped.

Specifically, until the end of June, Vietnam’s total export turnover to Southeast Asian countries only reached US$2.27 billion, declining by more than US$500 million compared to the same period in 2019.

At the end of June, seven export commodity groups to Thailand reached a turnover of US$100 million, decreasing by one commodity group compared to 2019.

The commodity group that has left out the list of commodity groups with turnover of US$ hundred millionis textiles and garment with a turnover of nearly US$91 million, a decrease of more than US$10 million compared to the same period in 2019.

Meanwhile, topping the list is phones and spare parts with a turnover of nearly US$339 million, but it has also dropped sharply by US$430 million over the same period in 2019.

The import turnover has also sharply decreased with the difference of about US$1 billion.

Specifically, in the first half of the year, the whole country spent more than US$5.05 billion on imports of goods from Thailand, meanwhile this figure was more than US$6 billion in 2019.

The commodity group with the highest turnover is household electrical itemswith turnover of nearly US$518 million, a slight increase of US$3 million compared to 2019.

Meanwhile, the turnover of vegetable and fruit products sharply dropped from nearly US$408 million in the first six months of 2019 to over US$36 million.

Currently, Thailand is Vietnam's largest trading partner in Southeast Asia.
