ĐỒNG NAI — A total of 168 households raising fish along the La Ngà River in Đồng Nai Province will move their cages to more suitable places to prevent the fish from dying en masse due to bad weather and low water levels in the river, the Định Quán District People’s Committee said on Thursday.

The households combined have nearly 650 cages with more than 8.7 million fish of different kinds.

Ngô Tấn Tài, deputy chairman of the committee, said that in recent days, the committee had instructed the farmers to move the fish cages.

Tài said that at the present, water levels were low and the weather has bad quality so cages in unsuitable places could face many risks and if the move is not done early, the fish will die.

Local farmers along the river said they agreed with the plan and would move their cages soon, adding that they hoped local authorities would financially support them moving.

Fish have died en masse along the La Ngà River many times in recent years, causing great losses for local farmers. To resolve the problem, the Đồng Nai Province People’s Committee in February this year approved a project on fish raising management in the area.
