Four-month fisheries exports down 10 percent

Hanoi - Fisheries exports in the first four months of this year fell 10 percent year-on-year to 2.18 billion USD, according to the Department of Farm Produce Processing and Market Development at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Both tra fish and shrimp - Vietnam’s two main fisheries products - posted strong declines, of nearly 32 percent to 420 million USD and 12 percent to 748 million USD, respectively.

Japan, the US, the EU, and China were the leading markets, making up almost 58 percent of total export value.

Exports to Japan and the US saw slight growth in the first quarter but those to the EU and China fell sharply, by over 28 percent and 27.5 percent, respectively.

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, fisheries exports in 2019 reached over 8.54 billion USD, down 2.9 percent against 2018.
