Hiep Hoa district boosts experience exchange with Gifu prefecture in high-tech agricultural

Thanks to the introduction of the provincial Department of Foreign Affairs, the working delegation of Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province headed by Nguyen Huu Chinh, Vice Chairman of the district’s People’s Council visited and learned experience at Gifu Prefectural Agricultural Technology Center, Japan (the Center) on 12 November.

During their visit, the working delegation was introduced about the agricultural situation of Gifu Prefecture and advances in agricultural technologies studied and piloted by the Center.

Gifu Prefecture is located in western Japan. Its agricultural sector is famous for veggie and fruit production, Hida beef and sweetfish. The prefecture has over 56,000 hectares for agricultural cultivation with some 30,000 agricultural laborers. The average age of agricultural labor is 67.8. Its agricultural production value hits 55.7 billion JPY (490 million USD) per year, accounting for 0.8 percent of the economic structure.

Gifu Prefecture has carried out a number of policies to support agricultural development such as expanding agricultural training centers, calling for agricultural enterprises, establishing trade brands for and boosting export of agricultural produce while building qualified rural areas.

Gifu Prefectural Agricultural Technology Center has an area for studying wet-rice, strawberry, tomato, flowers, pear and persimmon cultivation technologies. It is researching the safe use of pesticides and disease diagnosis and controlling techniques.

At the meeting, the working delegation from Bac Giang province discussed some issues on technology transfer, production planning and product consumption support. Besides, they visited the strawberry researching model of the Center.
