Processed tuna exports skyrockets

In August alone, Vietnam saw a 97% increase in exporting processed and canned tuna as compared to the same period last year.

According to seafood companies, after bouncing back in July, exports of Vietnamese tuna didn’t grow as expected when the export value declined by 6% as compared to the same period last year. However, sales in some major markets have shown positive signs.

At present, the Covid-19 pandemic is leading to decline in Vietnamese tuna exports, except for canned tuna. The export value of Vietnamese canned tuna in the first eight months of 2020 increased by 23% from last year.

After consecutive declines in the US, sales of Vietnamese tuna increased by 5.2% as compared to the same period last year. In August alone, Vietnam’s export value of processed and canned tuna to the US increased by nearly 97% as compared to the same period last year, with a vast majority of frozen steamed yellow fin tuna (HS16041490) and frozen tuna meat (HS03048700) which were sold at 6,6 USD/kg and 9,3 USD/kg, respectively.

In August, noticeable increases in sales were recorded in Canada, Egypt, the US and Israel. Remarkably, after a while of slump, tuna exports to Israel have increasingly grown. In August alone, exports of tuna to this market increased by 238% as compared to the same period last year.
