Turkey boosts pepper imports from Vietnam
In the first months of this year, Turkey’s pepper imports increased sharply in which Vietnamese pepper accounted for a large percentage.

According to Vietnam Trade Office in Turkey, data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute showed that in the first four months of 2021, Turkey imported 2,673 tons of black pepper in total, worth more than US$5.17 million, up 71.7% in volume and up 72% in value compared to the same period in 2020.
Vietnam continued to keep the position of the largest pepper exporter into Turkey with above 1,356 tons worth approximately US$2.7 million, up 38.1% in volume and up 48% in value. Vietnamese pepper accounted for roundly 51.6% of Turkey’s market share in terms of export value in the first four months of 2021.
Meanwhile Vietnam’s rival Brazil exported 930 tons of pepper into Turkey with a value of US$2.5 million in the same period, up 17% in volume and 43.1% in value. The figures showed that Turkish pepper imports remained on uptrend during the period.
However, a part of Vietnamese pepper exported to Turkey will be conducted by the operation of temporary import and re-export via some European countries or other neighboring countries for processing or consumption in these countries.
