VIETFOOD connects summer-autumn rice consumption in Mekong delta

On August 6th, the Vietnam Food Association has sent a document to Mekong delta provinces and cities and provided a list of traders to connect the 2021 summer-autumn rice consumption.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Nam, Chairman of the Vietnam Food Association (VIETFOOD), provinces in the Mekong delta at the moment have started the summer-autumn rice harvest of 2021. However, the southern provinces and cities are applying social distancing measures in the whole area according to Directive No. 16 of the Prime Minister, therefore, the food industry situation in regard to rice purchasing, production and processing has also been greatly affected.

With great efforts contributing to speeding up the consumption of commodity rice for the summer-autumn crop of 2021, especially fresh rice in the field for farmers, the Vietnam Food Association (VIETFOOD) has provided a list of traders with sufficient conditions for trading and exporting rice in accordance with province and city. This helps the people coordinate to create the most favorable conditions possible for the consumption of the 2021 summer-autumn rice amid the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The Vietnam Food Association proposed that the People's Committees of the localities strengthen support activities for food businesses in connecting production areas and ensuring the transportation of fresh rice from the field to the drying plant in a timely manner according to each rice production area.

Moreover, it is proposed that the People's Committees of the provinces and cities in the Mekong delta assist in synthesizing information for the Vietnam Food Association about the summer-autumn rice harvest date in the rice-growing regions of each locality. Correspondingly, the Vietnam Food Association will promptly notify rice exporters in each locality and on that account, any trader who has needs will participate to directly consume commodity rice of the 2021 summer-autumn crop for farmers.
