Agency of Foreign Trade (Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited information from National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) that in August 2021, US shrimp imports reached 95,78 thousand tons, worth USD1,07 billion, up 10,8% in quantity and 30,7% in value year-on-year.

Generally for the first eight months of 2021, US shrimp imports reached 614,53 thousand tons, worth USD 6,32 billion USD, increased 24,5% in quantity and 35,8% in value compared to the same period in 2020.

In August 2021, Vietnam’s shrimp imports into the US reached 12,9 thousand tons, worth 146,4 million USD, an increase of 60,1% in quantity and 65,6% in value year on year.

In general, for the first eight months of 2021, Vietnam’ shrimp imports into the US reached 54.1 thousand tons, worth USD 566,7 million, an increase of 57,3% in quantity and 81.7% in value over the same period in 2020.

Vietnam' shrimp market share in total US imports rose from 7,3% in the first eight months of 2020, to 8,8% in the first eight months of 2021. Vietnam is now the fourth biggest supplier of shrimp and the fifth in terms of market value in the United States.
