Vietnam ships litchi to many markets

HCMC – Vietnam has exported 36,200 tons of litchi grown in Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces to various markets including China, Australia, the Netherlands and Thailand.

Bac Giang litchi has made its way to China, Australia, Thailand and the Netherlands with respective volume of 18,370 tons, 1,300 tons, 1,000 tons and 500 ton, according to Bac Giang's Department of Industry and Trade director Tran Quang Tan.

On the home market, Bac Giang has sold more than 16,000 tons of litchi in southern provinces and another 28,500 tons in other parts of the country.

Bac Giang has 30 hectares under litchi cultivation, with total output of 100,000 tons, Tan said.

As for Hai Duong Province, its total litchi output is 30,000 tons, with half of it exported to China, 25 tons to Australia and the rest sold domestically, said Luong Thi Kiem, head of cultivation at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Duong.

Luc Ngan litchi in Bac Giang Province has for the first time been exported to Thailand, said Ho Quoc Nguyen, director of public relations at Big C Vietnam. The fruit is now on the shelves of Tops supermarkets and Central Food Hall stores.
