Vietnamese fresh lychees make inroads into Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan

The nation’s fresh lychees have hit the shelves of supermarkets in Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan for the first time as part of “Vietnam’s goods” week which is running from June 4 to June 6 at Kagoshima AEON Mall.

Information about the promotion, along with images of Vietnamese lychees at AEON, was shared by Kagoshima Governor Koichi Shiota with Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam during the course of their online working session held on June 4.

During their working session, both sides agreed on ways in which to further enhance bilateral economic and trade co-operation, including facilitating the export of Vietnamese goods to Kagoshima Prefecture and vice versa.

Situated in the south of Kyushu island, Kagoshima Prefecture boasts an advanced agriculture industry which ranks fourth in Japan, with its strengths in animal husbandry and cultivation. Their main industries include light industry and processing, whilst the locality is keen on recruiting more Vietnamese workers for its agricultural and processing sectors.

Furthermore, the Vietnam Trade Office in Japan have released details about over 300 stores and supermarkets of AEON across Japan holding a “Vietnam’s goods” week from June 25 to June 27. This is an annual event which will feature both the Vietnamese community in Japan as well as local people.

The Vietnamese Embassy and the Trade Office will work alongside AEON Mall Co., Ltd to boost the promotion of Vietnamese goods during the event, with a specific focus on lychees and typical farm produce.

The Prefecture's industry is largely made up of light industry and processing, with its local agricultural development ranking fourth in Japan.

Kagoshima also attracts a large number of Vietnamese students and trainees each year who come for the purpose of studying and working.

Over recent years, Kagoshima has offered many co-operation invitations with a desire to recruit additional Vietnamese workers to the locality who can work in a wide range of fields, such as food processing and agriculture.
