The move aims to materialise the commitments to continuously opening doors for Vietnamese and US commodities, which were affirmed by the two countries’ leaders during the recent visit made to Vietnam by US President Donald Trump, and mentioned in the joint statement between the two sides.
As announced by the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), the import permit for Vietnamese mango will be effective from December 29, 2017. Vietnam’s fresh mango exported to the US must be controlled systematically and abide by requirements concerning orchard and packinghouse as well as irradiation treatment and quarantine at the import border gates.
The agency also requests that these mangos be imported in commercial shipments, accompanied by phystosanitary certificates granted by a national quarantine agency of Vietnam.
These certificates must include an additional declaration confirming that the mango shipments have been found free of Macrophoma fungi, black spots and silverleaf beetles.
