Anmyfishco eyes VAP expansion on demand from Singapore, Pakistan

An My Fish Joint Stock Company — or Anmyfishco — is eyeing a shift to producing a greater proportion of its pangasius as value-added products, deputy trading director Chau Hung Son told Undercurrent News.
The firm operates a 60,000-metric-ton capacity processing plant in An Giang province, and while VAP is still a small portion of what it sells, there is enough demand to warrant a shift in production methods, he said.
He identified Pakistan and Singapore as two markets which had especially shown interest in the firm’s breaded pangasius fillets. As Godaco’s Jon Wilson told Undercurrent (see earlier in the blog), VAP made up less than 1% of Vietnam’s pangasius exports in 2016.
However, an expected rise in the minimum wage in 2018 is likely to further pressure costs for processors, perhaps necessitating more attention on higher-margin goods.
