Electronic logbook in shrimp farming be put on trial

In the “Gender transformative and Responsible Business Investment in Southeast Asia – Graise 2” project conducted by ICAFISH and OXFAM Vietnam in shrimp areas in Sóc Trăng and Bạc Liêu, ICAFIS worked with Tep Bac Company Limited to develop and put the electronic logbook in shrimp farming on trial.

Brackish-water shrimps, including black tiger shrimp (P. monodon) and white leg shrimp (L. vannamei) are key exported species of Vietnam. Traceability is one of requirements given by importing countries and standards such as VietGap, ASC, BAP, GlobalGAP and it is paid special attention in the entry of EVFTA and TPP. However, farmer’s abilities are limited.

The trial aims to enhance the ability of small shrimp farmers in using advanced technology in production and market approach. The applicants are shrimp farmers in Sóc Trăng and Bạc Liêu within a year from Aug 2020 to Aug 2021.

Expected result: small shrimp farmers will be improved with ability and skills in applying information technology solutions in production so that they can grasp more opportunities in approaching markets during the EVFTA and TPP integration.
