The complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic in Ha Giang has slowed the promotion and consumption of the provincial orange.

In the crop year of 2021-2022, Ha Giang province's total orange area for harvest is around 7,700 ha, with an expected total output of roughly 77,800 tons. Ha Giang orange is mainly distributed in Bac Quang, Quang Binh, and Vi Xuyen districts.

This is prime time for the harvest of several areas of Ha Giang orange while the harvest time for the king orange falls at the end of this month.  However, the most pressing issue at the moment is the unpredictable development of the Covid-19 epidemic in Ha Giang. Since the end of October, there are as many as 2,068 cases have received treatment. The scenario has had a detrimental effect on commercial operations in the region, especially the purchasing and transportation of orange products.

To assist farmers in increasing orange consumption, Ha Giang province has adopted a series of solutions to facilitate commerce and consumption. The Ha Giang Department of Industry and Trade serves as the focal point, instructing local departments and sectors to coordinate with the provincial administration to implement appropriate solutions to ensure the smooth circulation of oranges that are incompatible with the Covid-19 situation.

The Ha Giang Department of Industry and Trade maintains frequent interaction with units within the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as well as with other relevant departments, provinces, and cities, to provide further support and suitable conditions for orange consumption promotion. Additionally, it assumes primary responsibility for and coordinates with, relevant departments and units, orange farming district People's Committees, and the Ha Giang Orange Association in connecting with enterprises and distribution groups such as Aeon supermarket system, Vinmart & Vinmart+, Big C, Saigon Coop, Coo. mart... and other e-commerce platforms to promote the consumption of high-quality oranges.

Mr. Giang Duc Hiep, head of Ha Giang Subdepartment of Crops Production and Plant Protection, stated that the unit has coordinated with the administrations of Vi Xuyen, Bac Quang, and Quang Binh districts, as well as other relevant units, to assist orange growers with consumption. The competent unit wishes to ensure that sufficient quantities and quality are available to respond to the complex Covid-19 pandemic scenario.

Additionally, the agriculture and rural development sector in Ha Giang provides timely advice on resolving issues and deficiencies associated with the process of purchasing and consuming oranges in the region. It collaborated with other important sectors and administrations of orange districts in Ha Giang, as well as the provincial King Orange Association, to rent warehouses for the preservation and storage of oranges in several large cities and provinces. Selling via an e-commerce platform is also paid attention to in urgent situations.

Ha Giang province has consumed roughly 3,000 tons of yellow oranges yet. The good news for orange growers at the moment is that the price of oranges has reached VND 7,000 per kg due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. This price exceeds that of the orange harvest during the same season in 2020, and the circulation is fairly convenient and colorful.

Between November and January of next year, a harvest crop of yellow oranges with a yield of roughly 20.8 thousand tons is harvested. King oranges are predicted to produce more than 58.5 thousand tons this year, with harvesting beginning in late December and continuing until the middle of March the following year. Between the Lunar New Year and early May of the following year, V2 oranges produce approximately 800 tons.

At the moment, departments and sectors are actively seeking enterprises, cooperatives, and production families that may participate in e-commerce trading floors and ensure the quality of products that meet VietGap and organic criteria.

Ha Giang province concluded that in order for orange trees to thrive and have a long and sustainable market presence, new disease-free, unique, and high-quality orange types must be planted.

Simultaneously, the province promotes propaganda and guides orange-growing households in adhering to VietGAP and organic standards; compiling statistics on the total area, output, and orange production units that adhere to standards, regulations, and quality, in order to conduct activities to promote product consumption. Crockery items fulfilling VietGAP criteria are anticipated to total 45,700 tons in Ha Giang province's 2021-2022 orange harvest, while yellow oranges are estimated to total 19,280 tons.
