Luc Ngan’s Vice Chairman Cao Van Hoan said that since June 26, locally grown lychees have been selling for VND40,000-60,000 per kilogram, up VND10,000-15,000 compared with several days earlier.
The top-quality lychees were even sold at VND75,000 per kilogram.
To date, the district has sold more than 90,400 tonnes of lychees, of which 60% have been exported to China, the Republic of Korea, Australia and Japan.
Currently there are still 40 Chinese traders purchasing lychees in large volumes at more than 100 locations in Tan Son, Bien Son and Phong Van communes.
The harvest is projected to finish in the next few days as it is already the end of the season and there only remain a few unharvested areas.
The district authorities reported that local farmers have earned more than VND3.2 trillion (US$137.6 million) from lychees, up more than VND1 trillion from the previous year. It is also the all-time record high revenue.
In addition, supportive services such as food, accommodation, preservation ice, packaging, banking and workers also generated more than VND1 trillion.
