Ha Noi – Can Tho Seafood JSC (or Haca Seafood) is hoping to capitalize on EU demand for value-added products, rather than turning to the soaring demand for whole pangasius or fillets from China.

This is because it has invested in several quality certificates and standards, as well as Aquaculture Stewardship Council certification, a representative with the firm told Undercurrent News.

The company – which has production capacity of 30,000 metric tons per year out of its factory – has made efforts to be able to sell to the EU, with full traceability from its own farm through to exports, and “one of the most modern testing laboratories in the west of Vietnam”, he said.

In 2017 Haca has invested in new equipment for value adding, allowing it to offer a new range of marinated ad breaded pangasius products. In the future it hopes to secure enough business for these to warrant expanding the plant.

“We see many customers want convenient food, portions and breaded products. We want to sell these, not sell lower quality products to China,” he added.
