2021 lychee harvest brings revenue of over VND6.8 trillion to Bac Giang

Lychee production has brought revenue of VND6.8 trillion (US$96 million) to farmers in the northern province of Bac Giang with this year’s fruit crop, as announced the provincial People’s Committee.

This year, the province’s output climbed to more than 215,000 tonnes, an increase of 50,000 tonnes year-on-year. Of which, 126,000 tonnes were consumed domestically, while the remainder was exported.

Bac Giang’s lychees were shipped to China, the US, Australia, EU, and Japan, and the Republic of Korea, along with the Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern regions.

Lychee prices averaged VND19,800 per kilogram this harvest season. The fruit won much appreciation from consumers at choosy markets such as Japan, the US, Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, where it fetched up to VND350,000-VND450,000 VND (15.1-19.6 USD) per kilogram.

Bac Giang Province plans to maintain the total lychee growing area in the 2022 crop at about 28,100 hectares, while expanding lychee production areas under VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.

In next year’s crop, the province will pay attention to promoting the application of advanced technology in production in order to increase the quality of the fruit. The province will also target an increase in exports to Japan, EU, the US, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
