Agricultural value is increasing
In 2020, agricultural sector still contributed more than US$10billion to the country’s trade surplus amid difficulties from natural disasters and epidemic diseases. This showed that the sector has played a major role in ensuring food security and is also the important platform for the national economy.

“Platform” for economy
Last year, agricultural sector continued being the “platform” for the national economy amid difficulties from natural disasters and epidemic diseases. The sector still maintained its GDP growth at around 2.65%. Its total export turnover was US$41.2billion. There were over 62% of communes reaching criteria on new-style rural construction. The rate of forest coverage obtained 42%. The average income of residents in the countryside was VND43million per person.
The sector’s production scale continued being enhanced towards goods production based on upholding each region’s advantages with consumption markets further expanded. The sector also further improved the organization of linkage in production-business chain; promoted the new-style rural construction program; made synchronous investment in agricultural-rural infrastructure, better serving locals ‘daily life and production.
In 2021, the country’s agricultural sector will strive to gain the GDP growth of 2.7%-3%, the growth of 2.8%-3.1% in agro-forestry-fishery production value and more than US$42billion in agro-forestry-fishery export value. The sector will also coordinate with localities to strengthen the implementation of the new-style rural construction program, develop rural infrastructure facilities, promote sci-tech application into production.
Binh Duong’s agriculture further gaining growth
In 2020, the province’s agricultural production obtained positive results. Accordingly, the sector’s production value surged 4% compared to 2019. There were 100% of communes reaching criteria on new-style rural construction; 3 district and townships recognized as new-style rural ones; 3 remaining districts being considered for recognition about new-style rural construction.
For 2021’s targets, the sector will strive to get the growth of 2.5%-3% in agro-forestry-fishery production value; maintain the rate of residents in rural areas in use of clean water at 100%; continue maintaining and improving the quality of new-style rural communes under the province’s advanced set of criteria on new-style rural construction; get 5 communes recognized as advanced and model new-style rural ones; have 100% of communes with products for the “One commune, One product” program…, according to provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DoARD).
To achieve the above targets, Pham Van Bong, Director of provincial DoARD said that provincial DoARD will further strengthen restructuring of agriculture for better development. Accordingly, provincial DoARD will continue making the shift of plant and animal structure in line with the local advantages and the market’s demand as well as adapting to climate change. Provincial DoARD will also closely follow the development of weather and market information in order to appropriately adjust production plans, minimizing damage from natural disasters…
