Ben Luc: 1,200 hectares of high-tech lemons planted
In the past time, Ben Luc district of Long An province is stepping up producing and applying high technology on lemon trees and achieving certain results.
Lemon in Ben Luc has been present in many countries
According to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ben Luc district - Le Thanh Ut, the current area of lemon cultivation in Ben Luc district is 7,137 hectares, of which the seedless lemon is more than 6,564 hectares. Fruit output exported nearly 90 percent to countries in the region, mainly in the Middle East.
Lemon trees in the district are grown and increased rapidly, concentrated in communes of Thanh Hoa, Thanh Loi, Luong Hoa, Luong Binh and Binh Duc. Over the years, the lemon tree has brought a high and stable profit to farmers.
According to the development process, the district has applied high-tech production on lemon trees in order to improve the value, quality and increase the competitiveness of products in the market and for export.
After 3 years of implementation, up to now, the district has 1,200 hectares of lemons applying Gap-oriented production. The harvested product is eligible for export to the European market.
"In order to improve the quality, competitiveness in the market and enhance value and profitability, Ben Luc district sets a target that by 2025, there will be an additional 1,500 hectares of high-tech lemons to increase the area of applied lemon cultivation high technology of the whole district to 2,700 hectares", said Mr. Le Thanh Ut.
