Ca Mau aims for US$1.1 billion shrimp export goal

Southern Ca Mau Province is focusing on trade promotion to satisfy its yearly target of US$1.1 billion revenue from shrimp exports, according to a provincial official.

The province’s processed shrimp amounted to nearly 110,000 tons during the first 10 months of this year, a rise of 8% against the same period last year. This is a good sign for its seafood processing sector as shrimp materials for exports have increased.

Shrimp exports rose 8.5% over 10 months to US$837 million, thanks to business efforts in improving the design and quality of products to raise the value and competitiveness of Ca Mau shrimp products.

Nguyen Tien Hai, chair of Ca Mau provincial People’s Committee, has asked local authorities to instruct their people to make proper production plans, implement disease prevention measures, and apply effective shrimp farming models to raise productivity in line with environment protection and climate change adaptation.

Ca Mau has more than 9,650ha of industrial shrimp farming area, and 98,600ha of intensive farming area, which create abundant and stable shrimp materials for processors and exporters.
