Farmers in Dau Tieng contribute to economic development

Dau Tieng district’s Party Committee has focused on directing the whole political system to implement a plan on restructuring of the local agriculture towards added value increase and sustainable development. This is seen as an important turning-point in the process of changing the local farmers’ awareness and action.

Switching to appropriate model

Farmers in Dau Tieng have step by step changed production models towards increasing quality and quantity and decreasing production costs by sci-tech application after three years of implementing the local plan on restructuring of agriculture.

Over the past time, the district’s Farmers’ Society organized 468 training courses, seminars on cultivation and animal husbandry together with tours to effective models for more than 32,000 members and farmers across the district. This helped the local farmers bravely apply sci-tech advancements into production with effective models developed, namely the model of specialized area on growing fruit trees in association with ecological tourism development in Thanh Tuyen commune; the model of breeding swallows in association with purchasing rubber latex in Minh Tan commune…

The district now has 102 hectares of farming land with sci-tech application. Noticeably, Dau Tieng Rubber One-Member Co.Ltd. and U&I Agricultural Joint Stock Co. have realized a joint venture on banana growing in Thanh An commune. Le Van Anh, Vice-Chairwoman of the district’s Farmers’ Society said that after three-year implementation of the local plan on restructuring of agriculture, the district has maintained its farming land with quality increased and new varieties developed. The district is now home to 615 hectares of fruit trees, up 425 hectares compared to the previous three years. There are also around 11 hectares of ornamental creatures, in which Mai Quoc Thai orchid farm of 6.5 hectares in Minh Hoa commune is most effective. Along with this, the district has so far developed 2 hectares of growing various mushrooms in Minh Thanh and Minh Hoa communes.

The district’s ornamental fish-breeding model is mainly in Thanh Tuyen and Thanh An communes. The district’s total value of ornamental creature production reaches VND800million-VND1billion per hectare per month. The whole district now has a total of 214 animal husbandry farmsteads. There are around 1,345 milk cows, including 1,050 from Long Tan milk cow cooperative with the output of 8-10 tons milk  per day…

Contributions to new rural construction

Over the past time, Dau Tieng district’s Farmers’ Society instructed its branches to make dissemination of information about the significance and goal of the new rural construction program among cadres, members and farmers, raising their awareness of the program.

The society and its branches have so far mobilized members and farmers to contribute 4,604 working days and more than VND7.9billion to constructing and upgrading 121.5 kilometers of rural roads. Especially, the family of Pham Van Duong in An Lap commune’s Ho Can hamlet donated VND2billion to making a path covered by asphalt from Ho Can to Ha Nu hamlets. The family of Ho Van Ngung in Dinh An commune’s Dong Sen hamlet supported VND2billion for constructing a road of 4 kilometers…

Noticeably, ethnic minority people in the district have made active contributions to the local new construction program. Trinh Dinh Toan, Chairman of Minh Hoa communal People’s Committee said that over the past 6 years, Cham ethnic minority people donated more than 4,100 square meters and 70 rubber trees to upgrading a road of more than 2 kilometers. Thanks to the attention and help of the local administration, they have bravely applied sci-tech advancements in production for better results.

With the above practical and creative ways, the district’s Farmers’ Society has well upheld the potential of members and farmers in economic development, contributing to strengthening their role in new rural construction.
