Fishery output strived to achieve over 60,000 tons in 2021

In 2021, Long An province's aquaculture output target will reach over 60,000 tons, an increase of about 2,000 tons compared to 2020, of which, the output of brackish water shrimp of all kinds will reach over 15,000 tons, the output of freshwater aquatic products will reach over 45,000 tons, all increased compared to 2020.

Brackish water shrimp farming in some districts in the lower-land regions is highly effective

Currently, the province has built concentrated brackish water shrimp farming areas in districts of Can Duoc, Can Giuoc, Tan Tru and Chau Thanh with a total area of about 6,800 hectares, of which, it implements the pilot hi-tech application model in commercial shrimp farming in some areas. The province strives to 2025 that the value of farmed shrimp will reach over 1,300 billion VND. Freshwater aquaculture, concentrated in the districts of Dong Thap Muoi such as Tan Hung, Vinh Hung, Tan Thanh, and so on with aquatic species such as tra fish, snakehead fish, catfish, etc. 

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - Dinh Thi Phuong Khanh said that the province's Agriculture sector will focus on directing the aquaculture season frame, implementing water environment monitoring in farming areas to timely give recommendations to farmers in order to achieve the set goals in the coming time. At the same time, the province strengthens the quarantine of aquatic breeds at establishments producing aquatic breeds and seeds imported into the province; implements to manage the aquatic diseases in aquaculture areas. At the same time, the province will focus on investing in building infrastructure systems for aquaculture such as roads, irrigation systems, electricity systems and so on, and step by step creates favorable conditions for the provincial fisheries sector to develope.
