Fruit and vegetable exports significantly increased with an estimate of over US$ 3 billion

With a monthly average growth rate of 30%-40% compared to the same period last year, the fruit and vegetable exports are estimated at over US$ 3 billion.

Talking with a Customsnews reporter, the Representative of the Plant Protection Department (MARD) said: In the first half of the year, fruit and vegetable exports achieved a positive growth rate of 30-40% over the same period last year

Fruit exports have positive signs including exports of dragon fruit and longan to the US market and mango and litchi to the Australian market.

For litchi in private, the volume of litchi exported to Australia reached only 30 tons, now litchi exports to this market has reached over 40 tons and the volume is still increasing. In addition, this is the first year that Vietnamese litchi has exported to the Thai market and been well assessed.

Talking about the reason for this prosperity, the representative of Plant Protection Department said that it is due to the good implementation of the phytosanitary and market opening. In addition, the export enterprises are also quite active.

He also said that: “It is expected that from now to the end of the year, fruit and vegetable exports still increased about 30% over the same months last years. The total fruit and vegetable exports is expected at over US$ 3 billion”

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the fruit and vegetable export in the first six months are estimated at US$ 1.7 billion, up 44.6% year-on-year. China, the US, Japan and South Korea are the top importing market of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables in the five months of 2017, accounting for 84.7% of the total export turnover.
