How to make China’s mammoth aquaculture sector more environmentally friendly is an equally mammoth task – but an urgent one.

According to one presentation at the Global Aquaculture Forum, about 5% of water pollution in Chinese waterways comes from aquaculture farms.

At the afternoon session entitled “Driving Green Development of China’s Aquaculture Industry”, Ge Xianping of the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Science presented nine more environmentally friendly freshwater aquaculture systems it is encouraging farmers to adopt.
