Mai Chau successfully builds safe veggie farming-distribution model

The sub-department of agro-forestry-fishery quality management has held a conference in Tan Son commune, Mai Chau district, to review the model linking production and consumption of vegetables following the VietGap practice.

Delegatesvisited the safe vegetableplantation model in Tan Son commune (Mai Chau district).

The model was implemented in Tam Hoa hamlet, Tan Son commune, between July and November this year. The Tam Hoa agriculture service and development cooperative, consisting of 10 households, benefited from the project.

The assessment of the project’s outcomes showed that the link among these households reduced the need for intermediate services, tackled price pressure from traders, and capitalized on local potential for growing off-season vegetables. The model created regular jobs for participating householdsand providedsafe products of clear origin.Meanwhile, the lesser use ofpesticides helped topreserve biodiversity, andprotect the environment and human health. According to the Tam Hoa cooperative management board, since the model was carried out, their vegetable prices have increased by between 1,000and3,000 VND perkg.

At the conference, representativesof participating households recommended the province continue to allocate funds for the expansion of the model and the promotion of Tam Hoa products in the coming years.

They expected the People's Committee of Mai Chau district to aid the cooperative in maintaining and expanding its VietGAP-standard production.
