Over 102 billion vnd to improve the competitiveness of the fishery
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved the project "Strengthening the competitiveness of the fishery in the context of economic integration" with the total cost of 102.2 billion vnd, with the State budget of 40 billion vnd and mobilized resources from enterprises and international organizations of 62.2 billion vnd.

The overall objective of the project is to enhance the competitiveness of the fishery in the context of Vietnam's international economic integration and the implementation of free trade agreements (FTAs) for the restructuring of the fishery to increase value added and sustainable development associated with new rural construction.
In particular, the main content is the review and supplementation of legal documents along with strict regulations on production from aquaculture (breeds, feed, drugs to prevent disease) to export processing to the markets (raw materials into the factory, processing, packing, etc.,).
Amending and supplementing regulations on import of fishery products and aquatic materials for export processing in line with international standards agreed by Vietnam in FTAs.
In addition, suplementing the provisions on traceability, regulations on preservation, processing and consumption of exported products, and the Single Window management accepted in FTAs on the basis of international standards.
At the same time, strengthening international cooperation with countries in the region and the world to improve management capacity and integration of the fishery.
Attracting foreign direct investment for development of the fishery in all 3 freshwater, brackish and marine areas. Producing aquatic species of high economic value; microbiological preparations for water treatment in aquatic environment; and specific types of food for each type of aquaculture.
Developing supporting industries for offshore exploitation such as production of fishing gears for selective exploitation of some aquatic species of high economic value for export; repairing, renovating and building offshore fishing vessels with more appropriate and modern gear.
In addition, taking advantage of tariffs to boost exports of key and potential goods according to tariff reduction schedule in FTA markets with Vietnam and expand potential markets. At the same time, enhancing capacity building to tackle technical barriers in international fisheries trade.
Maintaining and boosting the export of high quality products such as shrimp, pangasius and frozen fresh tuna to Japan and the US market.
Developing a database of technical barriers and voluntary technical barriers in major seafood import markets to provide valuable information to State management agencies, industries and producers to actively meet the market requirements.
Reorganizing the chain-based production for key exports and goods with potentiality of exports towards large commodity production, application of hi-tech and environmentally-friendly goods, in line with international economic integration and climate change adaptation.
Building national brands for Vietnam's key export seafood products. In the coming time, focusing on building the brand name of Vietnamese shrimp, pangasius and tuna to meet the requirements of international standards, associated with the geographical indications of Vietnam.
