Vietnamese province aims to double shrimp production
Quang Tri province in central Vietnam plans to raise the value of its shrimp sector from from 550 billion dong (US $23.9 million) to over 1 trillion dong a year by building state-of-the-art production facilities.
If realised, the development will nearly double the value of the province's shrimp production
The province's Director of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vo Van Hung, has, according to Vietnam Plus, announced plans to build up to 1,500 hectares of shrimp production facilities – enough to produce 6,800 tonnes of shrimp – in the province by the end of 2020.
The first phase of the development, due to start early this year, will cover 50-100 hectares of the province’s coastal strip. The plan is for the development to meet international organic and VietGap standards by using biofloc technology.
