According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), information from “GOAL: The Responsible Seafood Conference” shows that pangasius production volume in Vietnam is increasing rapidly and can potentially reach 1.8 million tons in 2021. In addition to Vietnam, pangasius production in Indonesia is also experiencing strong growth.

Total world pangasius output is forecast to increase by 6% in 2021 and 2.1% in 2022, exceeding the three million tons mark. Global production of other types of catfish is also on the rise with estimated growth of 9% in 2021 and 6.1% in 2022.

Based on this growth rate, there is a high possibility that the total global catfish production volume will surpass the five-million tons mark by 2022.

According to GOAL, the output growth rate of key commercial farmed fish species in the world will be 2.5% this year and 2.7% in 2022. Global farmed fish production is forecast to exceed 40 million tons by 2022.
